I've never lived in a dorm. I can see the similarity, though.
[Yu was already sold on the inn, so to speak, and besides...he doesn't have a lot of other options, right now. But-- it's nice to know what he's getting into. Makes it easier to prepare. Is lively what he needs? It's not quite what he wants, but the answer to the question is up in the air. He's never been great at answering it.
There's a pause. Then:]
You can have it. I don't think I'll be using it anymore.
[It's a definitive relief when Minato says yes. Yu doesn't know that he could let the place languish in good conscience, but going back there... he's not ready for it.]
Thank you. Yes, I'll do that.
[A pause. There's some formality in the execution, here, but there's also a genuine sentiment in it:] Please take care of it.
[The dojo, the little house he shared with Yosuke...they don't feel right like this, empty of the people that made them special. Yu can be sentimental, at heart, and maybe that's why he closes the door on both of those places. He doesn't bother with most of his belongings at the moment -- simply shoves a few things into the duffel bag he arrived with and slings it over his shoulder. He'll go back for the rest later.
For now: the inn.
When he arrives, he takes a moment to drop the bag on the floor outside of the neighboring room, and then knocks on Minato's door.]
[ It doesn't take long for the door to open. After all, Minato's been expecting Yu.
He stands in the doorway, gaze shifting sidelong at the duffel bag in front of the room over before looking up at the other wild card. Looks like Yu only arrived with the bare necessities, but maybe that'll be good for him. A little change of scenery, so to speak. ]
Hey.
[ A simple greeting for now as he offers Yu a polite nod. After all, they both know what Yu's here for. ]
[A no-nonsense exchange, more or less. Yu appreciates it, at the moment, more than he's ready to put into words. Right now-- well, Minato is right, in a sense; after everything else has been shaken up so much, this particular change is probably good for him. A chance to let some memories sit on the backburner, for a while.
... Ah, right. The key.
Nodding wordlessly, he shuffles in his pocket. As he feels the weight of the key in hand, he pauses for the briefest second, imprinting in his mind the way it feels in his hand. The weight of it.
[ The metal key falls into Minato's palm. The warmth from Yu's hand quickly fades from it, taking on the temperature of Minato's palm instead. His fingers close around it as he nods to acknowledge Yu's gratitude. ]
Don't worry about it.
[ It might be a serious gesture from Yu's perspective, but taking care of the dojo and holding onto its key while Yu was away is a simple task for Minato. He slides it into his own pocket before surveying Yu, deliberating silently to himself. He recalls his earlier conversation with Kotone.
...would doing that really help make Yu feel better? Well, only one way to find out.
Minato steps forward to wrap his arms around Yu, pulling him in for a hug. Though instead of leaning his forehead against Yu's shoulder, he looks up, scrutinizing Yu's expression for any signs that this might be improving the other wild card's mood. ]

Where are you living now?

It's not so bad there. I still haven't left it.
The room next to me is empty.
no subject
Is it?
[A beat. He struggles with himself, here, though of course it doesn't show in text.]
How do you like it there?
no subject
[ What other good things can he say about the inn... ]
The people who live there are nice enough. Whitey's there too.
[ Lbr now who Doesn't love Whitey!!
His mind wanders back to the abandoned dojo though. ]
Can I borrow the dojo key if you're not using it? I want to make sure it stays clean.
[ Like the last time Mikey disappeared. ]
Only if you'll let me though.
[ ...he knows Yu and Mikey were close, but even now Minato doesn't know the true extent. ]

Okay. I'll hang onto it.
[ At least, until the day that Yu thinks he can bear to see that key again. ]
If you're thinking about moving to the inn, maybe you can hand me the dojo key the next time I see you there.

Thank you. Yes, I'll do that.

It feels like that's how it's always been with Yu. ]
I will.
[ ... ]
See you soon.
