[Something warm tugs at his expression; a bit of fondness. For all of her different moods, Weiss really does care, and it comes through in little moments like this. It's something he admires about her, to be honest. As for the question-- ah. That one's hard to explain. He hums thoughtfully, trying to figure out how to word it.]
... Where I'm from, education is really important, and really standardized. My parents wanted to make sure my studies weren't interrupted.
[That's...kind of a mechanical response; or at the very least, it's lacking somewhat in emotional depth. Yu hasn't had much in the way of warm thoughts about his parents in a while...not that he dislikes them, and he understands their reasoning, but their relationship has certainly never had the familial love that some other people experienced.]
I was staying with family, so it wasn't so bad. Besides, my parents move around a lot, so I was used to it.

But it makes more sense now that Yu is lonely. He understands her own loneliness, even if they're different types. ]
I had to stop going to school at Beacon because it was attacked. The school fell, and even if I could have continued studying when I was sent back home, I just... it just felt wrong.

Beacon. [He repeats it almost curiously, but without pressing. He hasn't actually heard much about the world Weiss comes from, but it sounds like a place full of conflict.] ... it sounds like a difficult situation.

[ Over a year has passed since then, but it's still one of the most traumatising moments for each and every student in all the combat schools out there. ]
It would be nice to finish school some time. [ She smiles, saying that. Yes, she's a nerd. ] It's why I like borrowing books in the library. I make sure that it's not just story books or poems that I read, but also ones about history and other things.
At least I'm still learning and improving myself even in a place like this.

But I'm here right now. There's not much else I can do but make the most of my stay here. I honestly think I haven't had this much fun in some time.
[ What she says probably sounds scandalous. She likes it here? She finds it fun being here? Hell no! But it's a huge contrast to fighting for the fate of the world. In some ways, she does have fun here. She enjoys spending time with friends and doing things she hasn't been able to do in ages. ]

Weiss is right, though.] I know what you mean. Even when it comes to just missing people from home...there's not much we can do. [Wow. He sure is a sap.] But it's the same for me. It feels weird slowing down like this, but it's been nice to meet so many new people, too.
[Weird is kind of a soft way to put it; in truth, Yu has never felt so restless in his life. Even before the deadlines became a matter of life or death, before the fate of the world rested on the shoulders of a single afternoon, he's never really had downtime before. School, activities...even summer break was just a time for homework and summer jobs.
... That sounds kind of depressing, when he thinks about it that way.
When he's thinking along those lines, her observation about the books is sudden enough to get an actual laugh out of him.] It's kind of surprising, when you put it that way, but you're right.

In some ways, being here has done some good. [ She smiles. While the loneliness she's felt that had brought her to cling to him has passed, she does still appreciate the company he provides. ] I met you!
