[ in his defense, charles isn't exactly used to dodging people on the street. thirty-five years is a long time to shake a habit, and even though he doesn't technically need to do it here, either, he's discovered that the locals tend to freak out if they walk straight through him, and he hates seeing their bewildered (or in the worst cases, frightened for their lives) expressions. so it's easy for him to try and actually pay attention to the people on the streets...
most of the time, anyway. in this particular instance, charles thinks he's spotted someone on the roof of a nearby building, and look, he promised richard he'd try to keep an eye out for other ghosts, so he's craning his neck to catch a better look and decide whether it's an actual person or a more spectral one —
and then there's a gasp coming from right in front of him and charles turns just in time to see wide eyes as the young man braces for collision, except charles just walks right through him, body turning ghostly blue and translucent. the sensation is nothing for him, but for humans, it's akin to walking through a cold spot, a chill that settles in and lingers for a moment before dissipating.
